The Public Lecture at Wolaita Sodo University Ethiopia

 When you are invited to make a presentation to a university and only meet Doctors you realize that the presentation must incorporate academics, quotations and connect your thought pattern to their thinking. On the 3rd of April 2024, I was invited to speak at Wolaita Sodo Univeristy on the theme: "Climate Adaptive Smart Farming", whereby I was to highlight on the 5 systems that if integrated would ensure that a farmer incorporates the organic approach to farming and as well as observe climate sensitive approaches. My presentation was pegged on biblical principles that are irrefutable that the first man Was a farmer and that God intended man to be farm. Other professions are secondary to farming. I got around of applause after my session that lasted 45minutes. It was the first time I spoke on a podium that I shared with University dons and I made sense. Immediately they asked me to write a proof of concept and then send them together with a nondisclosure agreement. This will be an open door for me on Hydroponics crop science, aquaponics, Azzola farming, black soldier fly farming and Hydroponics fodder. The integration helps farmers realize a climate adaptive smart farming model.

WHAT IS TIME....

Time is your most precious commodity and it is non-renewable. Whenever we squander time can never recover it. To manage your time effectively focus on your priorities and maintain balance. Simplify your life by living a planned life. Have rituals that you do everyday and review their effectiveness. Time slips through our hands like grains of sand, never to return again. Those who use time wisely from an early age are rewarded with rich, productive and satisfying lives. Those who waste their time regret on their death beds.Major time wasters include social media, Television, waiting for others, too much sleep, concentration on wrong profession and drained by unhealthy relationships. I will use my time effectively. 

A JACK OF TRADES

"Men fail because of a broken focus" is a common adage that reminds us to concentrate one one issue until we succeed. It also helps us understand the focus on what we are good at rather that trying everything. The ability to concentrate on what you are good at and leave what you are not good at to experts, will save your time. Today I handed out a tender preparation to a friend who has won tenders before and it was a great lesson for me. I realized that in the past I have wasted my precious time doing what I lack skills in. Reminds me before  i became a psychologist, I tried to help a client to stop smoking, he nearly died because of withdrawals syndromes. Do you are qualified to do and leave the rest to experts. U can never be good at all things....

DUE DILIGENCE

 I believe that you are cool and enjoying your Easter holidays. I believe that you may have had doubt in the past. However not everything you are told is to be doubted. Since many of us have been wrongly treated whenever they gave their full trust, the hurt sometimes makes us doubt even the genuine things. I had an encounter today with a friend of mine who sent me tenders for a certain organization. The whole day I wasted doubting its credibility. After conducting serious due diligence, I realized that it was genuine. My thought for the day...develop trust...follow your 6th Sense...when the deal is too good think twice...

GREED IS A MONSTER

 Life is always precious to me...everything I put my mind on or hold prospers. Opportunities come to me easily by what Christians call favor. I term it as "Opportunity Magnet". So last year while working in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, I received a call from a friend I had met 10 years ago while attending a party. So the call content included a catch up of how my life had been for the last 10 years. 

This is in 2023 and so the order of the day is an engagement for installation of a video conferencing hardware in an Non Governmental Organization based at Addis Ababa. So she asks me whether I could manage the installation, and since I am confident in IT and related aspects, I respond with an outstanding YES. So the job was awarded to me. She promised to pay me KES 50,000 (Kenyan Shillings) equivalent to 25,000 ETB (Ethiopian Birrs). So as a consultant I hired an IT specialist, a plumber to drill the wall ready for the following day of engagement. So the following day, my team and I reach the site and implement our task. While there, my Kenyan friend calls and remind me to send her photos of each step of installation. I honour that and sent each detail with explanation. 

After testing the system, we received a request from the client to buy 2 cables that cost 10,000 ETB. I reach out to my friend in Kenya and she approved the purchase and promised to refund the 10,000 ETB immediately. So I bought the cables and received a completion certificate for the work done. My friend in Kenya called me and insisted that we must send her the completion certificate and our invoice for the processing of our money. After sending the documents, we waited for the money from November 2023 to March 2024 when I decided to use my debt collection strategies.

It is important to note that my friend from Kenya never picked calls and never replied texts. So the debt collection was to use the client and get to my friend in Kenya. Since I work in Ethiopia, I called the client and threatened to storm the office and remove what I had installed. The client was so helpful and told me that my Kenyan friend had been paid the previous month (February 10th). I wondered why people are that greedy, she had not paid me even the money I spent to buy cables. 

Immediately she was called, she tried to reach to me but could not pick her calls. I gave her an ultimatum to deposit the money by close of business that day or expos her further. She deposited that evening. 

Why wait till you are shamed to pay other people's debts. 

I purpose to pay all my debts this year...

READING CULTURE THE SECRET TO WEALTH

In my muttering today, i highlight on 2 main books that I have read this year. The 5 AM Club and The Monk Who sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma have been instruments of my transformation. They say books help discover yourself. Through reading of these 2 masterpieces in our book club in Ethiopia, i am getting to discover myself and getting aware of Who I am truly. 

Through the readership of the 5 AM book I quit smoking and affirmed my decision to quit alcohol drink. I fasted for 3 days(dry fast). This has brought back discipline to my life. While reading the monk who sold his Ferrari, I have been honoring a ritual of jogging (physical fitness) and introspection.

Discipline is the key to achieving greatness, books contain wisdom from those who failed or made mistakes and therefore, we can correct what we do wrong everyday by expanding our horizons through developing a reading culture.

Next Month I read the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and then in May the famous Mahatma Gandhi's Autobiography and then in June read Marcus Aurelius masterpiece. I dedicate my life to read at least 12 enriching books every year...I am well able to do that...
